Green New Deal

An economic plan that will fight climate change

Campaign for the Federal Green New Deal

The Green New Deal is a comprehensive plan to address the intersecting crises of climate catastrophe, economic inequality, and racism at the scale that science and justice demand. The plan includes a just transition to 100% clean and renewable energy by 2030 and the creation of millions of good union jobs. *A just transition means that workers in the industry and traditionally marginalized communities will be included in the decision making process and prioritized in the outcomes.

Reach net-zero in greenhouse gas emissions through a just transition for all workers and communities

The Five Main Goals

Create millions of good, livable-wage jobs and ensure economic security for all people in the United States

Secure clean air and water, climate and community resilience, access to nature, food security, and a sustainable environment for all

Invest in infrastructure and industry in the US to sustainably meet future challenges

Promote justice and equity by stopping, preventing, and/or repairing the historic oppression of frontline and vulnerable communities

We call on Representatives Annie Kuster and Chris Pappas and Senators Jean Shaheen and Maggie Hassan to support climate solutions by signing on to co-sponsor the Joint resolution for a Green New Deal. The GND is a climate solutions plan centered in decarbonization, economic justice and green job creation.

In February of 2019, Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) introduced the Green New Deal. In very broad strokes, the Green New Deal legislation laid out by Ocasio-Cortez and Markey set goals for some drastic measures to cut carbon emissions across the economy, from electricity generation to transportation to agriculture. In the process, it aims to create jobs and boost the economy.

The Federal Green New Deal is a nonbinding resolution, which means if it passes, it wouldn’t itself create new programs. Instead, it would affirm the goals and projects would be turned into bills in the House and Senate in the coming years. The proposal stresses that it aims to meet its ambitious goals while paying special attention to groups like the poor, disabled and minority communities that might be disproportionately affected by massive economic transitions like those the Green New Deal calls for.

No, this is propaganda invented by the alt right to make the common sense policies of the Green New Deal seem radical.
