Raymond Community Power Efforts Launch

Residents of Raymond, NH launch efforts to bring community power to their town at the town’s annual fair.

RAYMOND, NH -- The Raymond Community Power Committee launched at their annual town fair last weekend in an effort to make local energy decisions at a town level. The group aims to bring utility costs down and increase local renewable energy with the support of 350 New Hampshire.

“We thought it was important for 350NH to support the committee and to be at the town fair having conversations with people in the community about all the work that the committee is doing for their benefit. There were presentation boards to draw people in, and we handed out flyers with more information about what community power is to look at later. Some people even took lawn signs for their yards”, recounts Emery McFadden, 350NH Fellow.

“I talked with a lot of people who are really excited about how community power can reduce their electricity costs and contribute to a more sustainable future. Renewable energy is now cheaper than coal and gas, creating a win-win for residents and our environment”, says Emily Friedrichs, 350NH Fellow

The Raymond Community Power Committee has goals to establish a default electricity supply product to deliver competitive rates, use more renewable energy, and support the growth of local, renewable energy; provide residents competitive rates with a variety of plan options while ensuring consumer protections; establish a plan to create resilience and self-sufficiency for our community in power procurement and use, and to develop local renewable sources; and create a fund to develop local, renewable energy projects and energy efficiency.

“The members of our committee are really dedicated to this effort. The work we’re doing is transformative and will benefit all the residents of Raymond, especially those with less resources. We’re following up the town fair with a community event at the High School to talk with people who received our mailer about the Buildings UP program we’re working on. We’ve got more projects in the works!”, explains Dan Roy, Chair of the Raymond Community Power Committee.
