Press Conference: As Utility & Gas Prices Soar, New Hampshire Climate Advocates and Elected Officials Demand Action
Concord, NH – Climate activists, young people, community members, and local elected officials are hosting a press conference at the State Capitol in Concord next Thursday, August 4 to demand state and federal action to crack down on the fossil fuel industry profiteering that is driving up utility and gas prices for New Hampshire residents.
Who:
Dominic Osmund - 350NH Electoral Fellow
Katie Lessard - 350NH Intern from Bow
Stephanie Marshall - 350NH Board Member
Bob Feder - 350NH Board Member
Joy Douglass - Member, Party for Socialism & Liberation
Tess George - Community Member from Nashua
Stacey Brown - Concord City Councilor, Ward 5
Seamus Burke - 350NH Intern from Nottingham
Jamie Henn - Director of Stop the Oil Profiteering
What: “Stop Big Oil’s Greed” Press Conference
Where: State Capitol, Concord, NH
When: 12:00-1:00pm
Why: While gas prices have dipped over the past month, they’re still causing pain at the pump, and many economists expect prices to rise again later this fall. Meanwhile, electricity rates are set to double for many residents, thanks to the high methane, or “natural” gas, prices and New Hampshire’s failure to expand renewable energy resources. These high prices are a direct result of Big Oil’s moves to profiteer from the war in Ukraine and our ongoing dependence on fossil fuels. Big oil companies are raking in billions of dollars in obscene profits while many New Hampshire families are struggling to pay their bills.
On Thursday, advocates will come together with local elected officials to call on state and federal politicians to do more to protect New Hampshire’s communities and climate by cracking down on Big Oil profiteering, getting support to local residents, and rapidly transitioning away from expensive fossil fuels to cheap and reliable renewable energy.
