CLIMATE ELECTION ORGANIZER

Job Description: Organizers build support for candidates who champion climate justice and get out the vote to make sure they win in November. Organizers will get candidates and elected officials on the record refusing fossil fuel money and supporting the green new deal, and participate in 350NH’s campaigns to end the use of fossil fuels.  This role will include training for first time organizers and plenty of room to use existing skills for more experienced electoral activists. 

Position Type: Full-time employment (40 hours a week) until the end of November 2020. There is a possibility that this position will be extended based on available funding.

Start date: During the month of June

Compensation : $ 20 / Hour

Location: New Hampshire 

Benefits: Flexible time off policy, Health Care Stipend, Relocation assistance negotiable

Core Responsibilities:

  • Phone banks to turn people out to vote for climate champions.
  • Climate deep canvassing and candidate canvassing
  • Recruit volunteers to participate in electoral programs through phone banking and canvasses.
  • Participate in staff meetings and strategy sessions
  • Direct Candidate Engagement on fossil fuel money donations and additional climate policy issues.
  • Recruit and organize community members in support of 350NH general campaigns and programs including;
    • No Coal No Gas
    • NH Renews
    • 350NH Youth Organizing Program

Required Qualifications:

  • Commitment to climate justice , including willingness to expanding your analysis and relationship to racial justice and equity
  • Dedication to support and strengthen social, economic and environmental justice movements and a strong motivation to end the use of fossil fuels.
  • Ability to organize and facilitate online meetings with volunteers, lead trainings, and speak over the phone to community members and potential voters
  • Ability to organize daily in-person with community members
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others 
  • Ability to use mobile applications
  • Access to a car and valid driver’s license
  • Live in NH

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in grassroots organizing, community building, electoral politics, or a related role.
  • Experience using google sheets to track and record data
  • Strong writing skills
  • Proficiency creating social media content

YOUTH CLIMATE INTERNSHIP:

We’re hiring a team of summer youth interns to support our campaigns for climate justice. A 350NH internship will help you take your climate organizing and advocacy skills to a whole new level!

Who Can Apply:

Youth ages 16-22 who are interested in learning more about climate justice and supporting the mission and campaigns at 350NH.

Time & Compensation:

The Internship runs from June 27 – August 27 with a one-day training earlier in June. Interns are expected to work 16-17 hours per week, and to be available to work flexible hours Wednesday – Friday with occasional weekend events. Compensation is $2,000 in the form of two monthly stipends of $1,000 each. Interns may use this program to meet school internship credit requirements when relevant.

Internship Responsibilities:

  • Plan exciting actions and visibility opportunities in the community to spread awareness about 350NH’s coal and offshore wind campaigns.
  • Canvass with 350NH staff and volunteers bi-weekly at events, farmers markets, or door-to-door.
  • Recruit volunteers and community members to participate in canvassing, actions, and climate justice education.
  • Plan the 350NH Youth Climate Retreat in August.
  • Support fundraising by signing up monthly donors and planning a grassroots fundraising event.
  • Create content for 350NH Youth Team Instagram and TikTok.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Commitment to climate justice, including willingness to expand your understanding and relationship to racial justice and equity.
  • Dedication to support and strengthen social, economic and environmental justice movements and a strong motivation to end the use of fossil fuels.
  • Ability to organize and facilitate online meetings with volunteers and speak to community members in-person about the climate crisis.
  • Ability to work independently, and collaboratively with others.
  • Willingness to travel locally in order to canvass and partake in actions/visibilities within your community.
